Wellbeing
Nurturing Values and Wellbeing
In the tradition as a Uniting Church School, Kinross Wolaroi aspires to develop our values of courage, respect, inclusiveness, resilience, and commitment through the lens of our Wellbeing program. Wellbeing is a dynamic state in which individuals develop their potential, self-worth and build respectful relationships with others. Wellbeing is enhanced through connected, supportive environments and manifests in an individual’s ability to fulfil their personal goals and contribute meaningfully to society.
Developing the whole student
Our Wellbeing Framework
Wellbeing at Kinross Wolaroi School is founded on our commitment to the development of the whole student. Our approach is under pinned by Visible Wellbeing and the associated SEARCH Framework, which aim to facilitate student learning and personal growth.
Our PreK-12 Wellbeing Program is thoughtfully structured around School Values and the Kinross Wolaroi Graduate Attributes, with four core domains strategically aligned to students’ developmental stages. Anchored in wellbeing science and informed by best practices, it ensures a holistic and contemporary approach to wellbeing education that evolves alongside the needs of our students.
By fostering a holistic, strength-based approach, we create a nurturing environment that empowers students to grow with confidence and reach their full potential. Our objective is to ensure that every student is seen, heard and supported.
Confidence Through Expert Support
Student Support and Psychology Services
At Kinross Wolaroi School, our expert team of psychologists and student support staff are integral to the success of the wellbeing program. Our counselling services are focused on supporting students' mental health and equipping them with the tools they need to flourish. As students mature, we want then to feel empowered to take ownership of both their academic and wellbeing journeys with confidence and resilience.
Our Wellbeing Program
At Kinross Wolaroi School, our vision is to deliver leading practice in education that is responsive to the needs of our students and community. As a School we endeavor to provide students from Pre-K through to 12 with opportunities for authentic learning and connections.
Wellbeing encompasses so much more than mental health. To us, wellbeing is a dynamic state in which individuals develop their potential, self-worth, and build respectful relationships with others. We aim to achieve this through highly relational environments in which students are encouraged to strive for their personal goals and contribute meaningfully to society. We recognise that a student’s wellbeing is built upon a positive and productive relationship between home and school, and we will work closely with you to ensure your child’s wellbeing journey is one that equips them with the necessary tools to live a fulfilling life and to meet the challenges of our modern world.
Junior School Wellbeing
The Junior School Wellbeing Program has been designed to meet the developmental needs of our youngest community members. The tailored program focuses specifically on emotional regulation strategies, student strengths, self-awareness, social awareness, and social skills, as well as the skills to reflect on and consider the wellbeing of others. Class teachers play a pivotal role in ensuring that each student receives personalised support, fostering a safe and inclusive environment where they can explore these concepts and develop meaningful relationships with their peers.
Senior School Wellbeing
The Senior School Wellbeing Program is tailored to meet the unique needs of our students and wider community. Delivered by dedicated educators and anchored in wellbeing science and research, the program engages students through structured lessons, presentations, and experiential learning. This approach equips students with the essential skills and knowledge to take ownership of their wellbeing, enabling them to thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. All senior school wellbeing staff have been trained in Visible Wellbeing and the SEARCH Framework, which are globally recognised and evidence-based wellbeing constructs and practices.
Restorative Approaches
Peer Relationships and Behaviour
At Kinross Wolaroi School, our approach to peer relationships and behaviour is founded on best practices. By implementing a restorative approach to peer relationships and behaviour, we foster a safe and supportive environment that models and promotes empathy, resilience, respect, and positive interactions amongst students and staff.
Foundation for Community, Leadership, and Personal Support
HOUSE SYSTEM
This thoughtful approach to peer relationships and behaviour management is further supported by our House System. Upon enrolment, each student is assigned to a Day House, which serves as their community within the School, cultivating a lasting sense of belonging and connection. The House System is instrumental in facilitating service-learning opportunities, nurturing student leadership, encouraging healthy interhouse competition, and ensuring the holistic care of each individual student. Each student is guided through their school career by a Head Mentor and Wellbeing Mentor. These staff play a significant role in the development of each student, ensuring they are supported, heard, seen, and encouraged to thrive and succeed. The House structure allows each student to have an advocate who knows them, their strengths and their aspirations.
