How Our Junior School Leverages Technology for Learning
At Kinross Wolaroi School, we understand that the future is digital. That’s why we have embedded a robust, engaging, and future-focused approach to technology within our Junior School curriculum. Our commitment to innovation ensures that students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6 experience the benefits of a well-structured digital learning journey, all while maintaining a strong focus on cyber safety.
A Progressive and Age-Appropriate Approach to Technology
From their very first years at Kinross Wolaroi, students are introduced to technology in a way that enhances learning and fosters digital literacy. Our Junior School Device Program is designed to provide age-appropriate tools that grow with our students, ensuring they develop essential skills in a supportive and structured environment.
To support their learning, students are provided with digital devices tailored to their year level:
- Pre-Kinder: 1-to-2 iPads for group work
- Kindergarten: 1-to-2 iPads
- Years 1 & 2: 1-to-1 iPads
- Year 3: 1-to-2 laptops
- Years 4, 5 & 6: 1-to-1 laptops
As we continue to invest in our Junior School technology program, the following improvements have been made in 2025:
- Year 1 students now have access to individual iPads, allowing them to engage with interactive learning apps, coding activities, and digital storytelling projects.
- Year 4 students have received their own loan laptops, facilitating independent learning, research skills, and creative multimedia projects.
- From 2025, Year 6 students will be able to take their laptops home overnight, reinforcing the connection between school and home learning while using the School’s online learning management system to access assignments and resources seamlessly.
These carefully planned rollouts ensure that our students gain confidence in using technology, while our teachers strategically integrate digital tools into lessons to maximise engagement and understanding.

A Comprehensive Digital Curriculum
Technology is not simply an add-on at Kinross Wolaroi — it is woven into the fabric of our learning experiences across all year levels and subject areas. Our digital curriculum evolves as students progress through the Junior School, incorporating a variety of engaging platforms and innovative projects:
- Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten: Introduction to SeeSaw, BeeBots, Google Earth, and Scratch Jr, fostering early digital literacy and creativity.
- Years 1-2: Hands-on experiences with stop-motion animation, Minecraft for interactive geography projects, and Ozobots for coding exploration.
- Years 3-4: Robotics, micro:bits, moviemaking with iMovie, and Canva for website creation, developing problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Years 5-6: Advanced projects like Mars Colony Expos, interactive arcade games using Makey Makey, and ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ digital storytelling.
By progressively integrating technology across the curriculum, students not only develop technical proficiency but also enhance their critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity — skills that are essential for the 21st century.

Prioritising Cyber Safety and Digital Responsibility
In a world where digital access is ubiquitous, fostering responsible online behaviour is as important as teaching academic subjects. At Kinross Wolaroi, cyber safety is embedded within our technology program, ensuring that students develop a strong sense of digital citizenship from an early age.
- Onboarding Sessions for Parents and Students: To ensure a safe and smooth transition into our device program, parents and students in Year 1 and Year 4 participate in onboarding sessions led by our Leader of Technology and Innovation, Mrs Myrri Fatai, alongside our expert IT team.
- Safe Online Practices: Students are guided through responsible internet usage, data privacy, and ethical digital interactions.
- Teacher-Guided Integration: Mrs Fatai collaborates closely with classroom teachers to embed digital safety principles into everyday learning.
By equipping students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely, we empower them to become responsible and confident users of technology.
